TORONTO — Today, TIFF is unveiling its fall programming slate featuring retrospectives, special screenings, new restorations, commemorative events; the return of Wavelengths Presents, MDFF Selects, and Midnight Madness Presents; and many special guests all coming to TIFF Lightbox in October.

On October 20, TIFF is hosting an In Conversation With... Matty Matheson with programming partner Penguin Random House Canada, an exclusive onstage discussion for the first stop of his international book tour about his new cookbook Soups, Salads, Sandwiches moderated by Tom Power, host of CBC’s Q. Matheson (The Bear) is a world-leading culinary media personality and an Emmy Award–winning writer, producer, and actor.

Programmed by Senior Curator Andréa Picard, TIFF Cinematheque’s integral retrospective on French filmmaker and screenwriter Jacques Rozier, Endless Summer: The Films of Jacques Rozier, introduces audiences to the originality, spontaneity, and youthful exuberance of his concise, rarely-screened filmography — presented in new restorations, courtesy of Janus Films.

To celebrate the significance of the four seasons in Korean culture, TIFF Cinematheque’s Cyclical Rhythms: A Quartet of Seasons in Korean Cinema will showcase one film for each season. A special Opening Night reception for Hur Jin-ho’s One Fine Spring Day, which will be screening in 35mm, will take place on October 4. The series is programmed by Hanbin Kim, Manager of Festival Programming, and supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto.

Presented in collaboration with TIFF, imagineNATIVE honours the life and legacy of late Mi’kmaq filmmaker Jeff Barnaby on October 22 with special tribute screenings of his work, including Rhymes for Young Ghouls (2013), his award-winning film Blood Quantum (2019), as well as a selection of his celebrated short films. Introductions will be provided by his wife Sarah Del Seronde, producing partner John Christou, and collaborators Devery Jacobs, Kaniehtiio Horn, and Danis Goulet.

Midnight Madness presents Halloween screenings of Lewis Teague’s Cujo, screening in 35mm on October 31; The Void, a cosmic horror directed by Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie, screening for free as part of See the North presented by MUBI; and Nicolas Roeg’s gothic thriller Don’t Look Now screening in 35mm, plus his family-friendly spooky film The Witches starring Angelica Huston and adapted from the classic children’s book by Roald Dahl.

Heartstopper will have a special screening of the first two episodes of Season 3 at TIFF Lightbox on October 8. The screening will be followed by a post-show Q&A with author and series creator Alice Oseman and executive producer Patrick Walters.

TIFF Lightbox will be showing an exciting lineup of the most talked-about New Releases hot off their run at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, including All We Imagine as Light, Anora, Bird, Emilia Pérez, Flow, Matt and Mara, The Piano Lesson, and Rumours. Plus, Matt and Mara director Kazik Radwanski will be in attendance for a post-show Q&A on October 4. Recently announced titles playing soon include A Different Man, Ibelin, In the Summers, Look Back, Seeking Mavis Beacon, The Outrun, and Woman of the Hour.

Secret Movie Club returns on October 22 with pre-screening conversations with the series co-hosts and programmers in Varda. Tickets will go on sale to TIFF Members on Wednesday, September 25 at 10am, and to the public on Friday, September 27 at tiff.net
