TIFF announces free Cinematheque screenings for Members

Members can now enjoy over 250 free films per year at TIFF Bell Lightbox

TORONTO — TIFF announced today that TIFF Members will receive free access to Cinematheque screenings as an addition to annual Member benefits. This exciting new benefit is valid for two complimentary tickets per TIFF Membership for each regular-price Cinematheque screening, excluding 70mm and 3D presentations, starting January 7, 2022. TIFF Members can access Cinematheque Winter Season pre-sale tickets as early as December 8.

Founded in 1990, TIFF Cinematheque is dedicated to year-round curatorial excellence, presenting the best Canadian and international retrospectives and programmes reflecting both classic and contemporary films in TIFF Bell Lightbox‘s state-of-the-art cinemas. In November, Cinematheque presented the series Céline Sciamma: Portraits of Desire and The Uncanny Vision of Denis Villeneuve, while December will feature the series Musicals! The Movies that Moved Us and Guillermo del Toro Presents: Film Noirs from 20th Century Studios.

“Free access to TIFF Cinematheque is our gift to Members,” said Cameron Bailey, CEO, TIFF. “Whether you stayed with us through the hard months of the pandemic or you‘re joining now to get back to your love of watching movies on the big screen, we‘re glad to have you with us. We want to see you more often.”

TIFF Members are part of a community of passionate, engaged movie lovers who have the advantage of exclusive discounts, pre-sales, and exciting events year-round and at the Festival, all while supporting TIFF‘s work and mission. Each level of Membership — Members 365, Contributors Circle, and Patrons Circle — offers a unique experience and closer relationship with TIFF.

"Opening free access to Cinematheque screenings in 2022 for Members is a milestone moment for the Membership programme,” said Ana White, Vice-President, Advancement, TIFF. For as little as $99 (less if you’re under 25 or a senior), you can watch hundreds of classic films on the big screen all year long, in addition to other exclusive benefits. This further reaffirms TIFF Membership as the ‘best film club in the world’.’”

As part of its annual year-end holiday-season Membership campaign, TIFF is sharing a special offer for Members to take advantage of this benefit in 2022. All new and renewing Individual Members who join by December 17 will receive a second Individual Membership to gift to a fellow film lover. Please visit tiff.net/21bogo for more information.
