Opening Night: Free Live Performance by Korea Town Acid and Mural Art by Jieun Kim, July 8, 7pm
TIFF Cinematheque series Summer of Seoul jumps off the screen with free public art activations in the TIFF Bell Lightbox atrium. Before the Opening Night screening of Winter Sonata, audiences can gather at 7pm for an improvisational set by electronic musician and DJ Korea Town Acid, and witness the unveiling of Seoul Night, a mural by artist, tattooist, and art producer Jieun Kim (a.k.a June), on display in the TIFF Bell Lightbox atrium throughout Summer of Seoul (July 8–August 28):
"I was born and raised in Seoul. For my whole life, the city has been my playground. I loved hiking up the Nam San (Nam mountain) in the cool summer night and enjoying the view from the highest point of the hill. When the sky was clear, I could see the big bright moon and spot a pair of rabbits hitting the mill in the moonlight. I used pastel colour as a way to highlight the full sensory experience I had while I lived in the city. I am excited to share my fond memories of Seoul with TIFF audiences in Toronto. I wish you could feel the warm wind blowing on your face when you see this mural." – JIEUN KIM
Can’t get enough of Seoul Night? Jieun’s merch is available for purchase at the TIFF Shop all Summer long!
