TIFF announces BVLGARI as major sponsor
BVLGARI to be official jewelry partner of the Toronto International Film Festival in three-year strategic partnership
Iconic luxury brand to sponsor TIFF Tribute Awards Gala fundraiser on September 11
TORONTO — TIFF is proud to announce that the historic Italian luxury brand Bvlgari has signed on as a major sponsor and official jewelry partner of the Toronto International Film Festival® , the largest publicly attended film festival in the world. The Rome-based Maison will also reinforce its ties to cinema with an exciting array of programmes year-round at TIFF. Highlights of the sponsorship include a high-style Portrait Studio, designed to inspire and bring sophisticated design and glamour to the 47th edition of the Festival, running September 8–18. In addition, BVLGARI will sponsor the fourth annual TIFF Tribute Awards fundraising gala on Sunday, September 11 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, which honours the film industry’s outstanding contributors and their achievements, and serves as a kick-off to the fall awards season.
From the Dolce Vita years to the present day, BVLGARI jewels have been featured in more than 40 films, tracing its relationship to the silver screen to Cinecittà studios in Rome. Its creations have been worn on screen by stars including Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra and Sharon Stone in Casino. Immortalised in pictures, one of the most memorable Canadian connections to BVLGARI is Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s famed 1964 visit to Toronto and subsequent wedding in Montreal. While in Toronto Richard Burton proposed with a BVLGARI emerald and diamond necklace; and a BVLGARI emerald pendant brooch, pinned on Taylor’s wedding outfit. In recent years, BVLGARI has built a roster of global ambassadors such as Zendaya, Priyanka Chopra, and BlackPink’s Lisa, who are among the A-list celebrities representing the brand and championing its diversity and inclusion initiatives.
“The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious events in the world that we are honoured to support. The link between BVLGARI and the Cinema has deep roots that have determined the DNA of the brand and have helped us to tell the audacity, creativity and excellence for which Bulgari is today so famous in the world. Being a partner of TIFF allows us not only to nurture this legacy, but also the works of new and upcoming talent. Bulgari is proud to be a part of such an important event in support of the cinematographic arts and the wonder they bring to the world.“ Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO, BVLGARI Group.
“BVLGARI creations have brought elegance to the silver screen from the 1950s to the present day,” said Cameron Bailey, CEO, TIFF. “We are excited to partner with BVLGARI as a major sponsor of TIFF. The partnership, spearheaded by TIFF’s Vice President of Partnerships, Elisabeth Burks, alongside BVLGARI Canada’s Managing Director Joshua Gaynor represents a significant investment in the Canadian market which has attracted the attention of leading luxury brands in recent years."
This three-year partnership comes on the heels of BVLGARI’s recent expansion of its retail presence in key markets across Canada. The Roman jeweler has a rich legacy in cinema since its founding in 1884, and for decades has been an ardent supporter of arts and culture. BVLGARI has sponsored festivals such as the Berlinale, the Cannes Film Festival, La Biennale di Venezia and the Singapore International Film Festival, to name a few.
TIFF’s 47th edition will feature 11 days of the best that the international film community has to offer, while spotlighting and championing the Canadian film industry and its filmmaking talent. Additionally, TIFF’s networking and celebratory events return, including the TIFF Opening Night Party, the Industry Conference, Filmmaker Dinners, Industry Networking Events, Press & Programmers Events, as well as the TIFF Tribute Awards gala fundraiser.
The 2022 TIFF Tribute Awards gala fundraiser will support TIFF’s Every Story fund to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in film, and TIFF’s core mission to transform the way people see the world through film. Now in its fourth year, the TIFF Tribute Awards honour the film industry’s outstanding contributors and their achievements, recognizing leading industry members, acting talent, directorial expertise, emerging talent, and a below-the-line artist. Some past recipients have gone on to win awards on the international stage such as Jessica Chastain, Denis Villeneuve, Chloé Zhao, Mati Diop, Taika Waititi, and Sir Anthony Hopkins, among others.
