TORONTO — TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey announced today that communications executive Judy Lung has been appointed to the new role of Vice-President, Public Relations & Communications as part of TIFF’s executive team. Lung joins TIFF on Monday, June 5, 2023.

“Judy Lung is a well-respected industry leader whose experience across the arts and entertainment sector will be a great asset to TIFF as she joins our senior management team,” said Bailey. “She brings an impressive breadth of experience, including past positions with TIFF, and has established strong relationships with media, creators, talent, and industry stakeholders in Canada and around the world. Judy is a seasoned professional with a demonstrated commitment to TIFF’s values and mission. We’re looking forward to starting our work with her.”

Lung comes to TIFF from Cineplex, where she oversaw external and internal communications strategies across all business units including exhibition, location-based entertainment, and film distribution as the company’s Director, Communications. Over a career that spans two decades, Lung has handled public relations and communications for some of Canada’s leading arts and entertainment organizations and has delivered publicity campaigns for hundreds of films and series including recent titles Scarborough, based on the novel by Catherine Hernandez, and David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future.

“I’m thrilled to be joining TIFF at such a pivotal and exciting time in the organization’s history. The Festival has played an important role in my career, influencing and informing my understanding and appreciation of film and its potential to initiate transformative change,” said Lung. “It’s an honour to return to TIFF in this new role, to work alongside Cameron and the esteemed leadership team, staff, volunteers, and partners across the industry as we look ahead to the next 50 years of showcasing talent and bringing audiences together to experience the unmatched power of film.”

As Vice-President, Public Relations & Communications, Lung will lead the organization’s team of Communications professionals that undertake strategic communication activities in support of the Festival and year-round programming, with an overarching goal of assuring the reputation of TIFF as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Additionally, she will be responsible for the planning, development and execution of external and internal communications efforts, and will oversee the Public Relations and Communications components of TIFF’s latest three-year strategic plan and goals: to grow the organization’s year-round engagement with audiences and the industry; to curate exceptional experiences at TIFF Bell Lightbox, establishing it as a landmark cultural hub in Canada celebrating Canadian and global film; to expand its role in international markets through innovative and meaningful offerings and experiences; to build a thriving organization by inspiring and engaging its talented staff; and to foster and embody an organizational culture that is collaborative, diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
