When should I arrive for my screening?

Please arrive no earlier than one hour prior to your screening. To reduce crowding, there will be no indoor lineups. Lineups will remain outdoors, rain or shine, so please come prepared for any inclement weather. If you have an accessibility concern that limits your ability to stand in a line, please see “What are lobby passes?” below.

PLEASE NOTE: All Festival screenings and events will start promptly at the scheduled start time. Latecomers will be admitted at the discretion of the Front-of-House staff. Latecomers not admitted will not be issued a refund.

What are lobby passes?

New this year: We are no longer offering physical Lobby Passes. Instead, they will be available to download to your mobile device.

If you have an accessibility consideration that limits your ability to stand in line, we are pleased to offer complimentary Lobby Passes, which can be used at any in-person screening or event. Access to the designated waiting area is granted to you and your companion (if required) upon presentation of a Lobby Pass to a Front-of-House Representative, along with a valid ticket.

To request a Lobby Pass, you can fill out this form or reach out to customerrelations@tiff.net. Your Lobby Pass will be added to your TIFF Account Manager by September 10 and can be accessed the same way as a mobile ticket.

Can children and/or youth attend the Festival?

Parents must purchase a ticket for their child, and tickets are subject to regular Festival pricing. Children under the age of two do not require a ticket if they are sharing a seat with an adult.

What safety precautions is TIFF taking for in-cinema events?

TIFF has been working closely with the Province of Ontario, the City of Toronto, and public health officials since March 2020 on the safe execution of the Festival. TIFF's number-one priority is the health and well-being of Festival audiences, residents of the entire community and our staff. All decisions undertaken have been in keeping with public gathering by-laws set forward by Provincial and City public health authorities since the start of festival planning.

Guests of all in-person events are asked to: (a) stay home if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, (b) self-report positive COVID-19 testing, and (c) adhere to all safety guidelines as set out by government health officials. You must follow all posted instructions while attending in-person events.

For your safety, comfort and peace-of-mind, TIFF has made the decision to close TIFF Bell Lightbox concession stands, thereby eliminating this as a point of contact between patrons and staff. As no food or beverage is being consumed, masks or face coverings must be worn at all times by staff and patrons when moving through TIFF Bell Lightbox and when seated in the cinema. Outside food and beverages are not permitted.

All in-person events have assigned seating to accommodate social distance spacing. TIFF has ensured a 2-metre circumference exists for patrons while seated with an empty row and a minimum of three open seats between them and other patrons. TIFF is adhering to the 50-seat maximum per cinema guideline set for all local movie theatres and has reduced capacity in its cinemas from 530 to 50 seats in Cinema 1, 358 to 50 seats in Cinema 2, and 152 to 34 seats in Cinema 4.

In TIFF Bell Lightbox, employees will monitor the atrium, the escalators and elevators to encourage traffic flow. Doors to the cinemas will remain open so that no line ups will form.

To help prevent the spread and transmission of COVID-19, TIFF is committed to:

  • Providing access to hand sanitizers
  • Encouraging physical distancing
  • Wiping down and disinfecting surfaces
  • Conducting regular cleaning in high-traffic areas

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By attending TIFF, you voluntarily assume all risks related to the exposure to COVID-19 and agree that you will not hold TIFF liable for any illness that may result.

Additionally, TIFF has partnered with Medcan, a global health care leader providing medical expertise, consultation, and health inspiration to achieve its mission of helping people “Live Well for Life.” Based on the pillars of evidence-based care, exceptional client service, and the latest in technology, Medcan’s team of over 90 physicians and specialists support employee health care across the continuum of health, including its “Safe at Work System” helping organizations navigate the pandemic.
