Established in 2004, the Student Film Showcase showcases the finest in student films from universities and colleges from across Canada. With the participation of the Film School Consortium, this TIFF event presents a range of student films in diverse forms - including animation, documentary, fiction and experimental work - that represent the burgeoning talent of our nation’s next generation of filmmakers.
The Showcase programme is selected by TIFF programmers, with awards determined by a jury of film industry professionals.
Many films that have been selected for the Showcase in the past have gone on to show at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children, as well as other festivals the world over. As well as providing opportunities for student filmmakers to exhibit their work, the Showcase delivers an environment for these students to make and develop important career-enhancing contacts with their peers and with professionals within the film industry.
Since its first year, when it began with a membership of eight Ontario schools, the Film School Consortium has grown to boast sixteen member schools from across Canada.
Member schools:
Capilano College, Concordia University, Confederation College, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Langara College, NSCAD University, Ontario College of Art & Design, Queen's University, Ryerson University, Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, University of Regina, University of Toronto, and York University.
