On the heels of a painful divorce, young-adult fiction writer Mavis Gary (Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron) returns to her hometown of Mercury, Minnesota, determined to rekindle a romance with her first love, Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson). Although her high-school boyfriend is now a happily married new father, that doesn't stop Mavis from desperately trying to win his affection. Attempting to relive her glory days, Mavis reconnects with a former misfit classmate (Patton Oswalt) who also hasn't quite recovered from his high-school experience. This wry, witty and darkly comedic drama marks the second collaboration between director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody after their Academy Award-winning Juno, which premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.
