In the snowy wastes of Siberia, Bond retrieves a high-tech microchip from the body of a double-O man who had snatched it from the KGB. When analysis reveals it to be a copy of a design made by the US-based government contractor Zorin Industries, Bond goes undercover to investigate the company's owner, Max Zorin (Christopher Walken). A former KGB agent turned renegade capitalist — and a product of Nazi genetic experimentation to boot — the Aryan genius/madman has concocted a scheme to flood Silicon Valley, allowing him to corner the market in microchip manufacturing. Frequently named as one of the nadirs of the series, Roger Moore's last Bond film nevertheless has its share of pleasurable distractions, including a foot chase and parachute escape on the Eiffel Tower, a pursuit through the San Francisco streets atop a fire truck, and the climactic showdown on the vertiginous heights of the Golden Gate Bridge. Moreover, Walken makes for one of the best and most unique villains of the series, with the additional boost of the towering Grace Jones as Zorin's fearsome Amazonian accomplice May Day.
