Art-house bad boy Leos Carax's first feature in thirteen years takes us on a wild and surreal trip through nocturnal Parisian streets as the mysterious Monsieur Oscar (Denis Lavant) morphs into a variety of personas and crosses paths with a host of strange characters played by the likes of Michel Piccoli, Eva Mendes and Kylie Minogue.
One of the most debated and divisive films at this year's Cannes festival, perennial art-house bad boy Leos Carax's first feature in thirteen years is a wonderfully crazy love letter to the movies. Cruising the nocturnal Parisian streets in the back of an elegant white limousine, the mysterious Monsieur Oscar (the remarkable Denis Lavant) meets up with a series of "clients" for whom he obligingly morphs to take on a variety of different personas throughout the night. By turns wealthy businessman, old woman, concerned father, assassin and monster, Oscar traverses the midnight city in a dreamlike reverie as he crosses paths with a host of unlikely and surprising people played by the likes of Michel Piccoli, Eva Mendes and Kylie Minogue. Anarchic, mischievous and ingenious, Holy Motors takes you to where limos sleep and shows you their dreams.
