Steve James, director of the unforgettable Hoop Dreams, teams with bestselling author and New York Times columnist Alex Kotlowitz for one of the year's most important and eagerly anticipated documentaries. On the violent streets of south Chicago, the innovative organization CeaseFire sends out teams of Violence Interrupters to intervene at the beginning of gang- and drug-related hostilities, sometimes risking their own lives to stop a fight. The film follows three Interrupters—each of them former gang members and legends on the streets—as they now work to bring peace to their neighbourhood and find some redemption for their pasts.
