The future of Canadian cinema is here and it is now: meet the new directors – from brave new First Nations voice of Jeff Barnaby, audacious artists Seth Scriver and Shayne Ehman, midnight madness arrivals Clif Prowse and Derek Lee to the strong woman perspective of Gia Milani. Hear how they got here and where they intend to go.
- Jeff Barnaby
- Jeff Barnaby is a Mi'gmaq filmmaker
from Listuguj, Quebec. His short
films have played in numerous festivals,
including Sundance, Tribeca,
Fantasia, and Vancouver. His film
The Colony (07) was selected by the
Festival as one of Canada's Top Ten
shorts. Rhymes for Young Ghouls (13)
is his debut feature.
- Gia Milani
- Gia Milani was born in Fredericton,
New Brunswick, and attended the
University of New Brunswick. She
has written and directed the short
films Bathroom Stalled (05) and She
Lost Her Marbles (07). All the Wrong
Reasons (13) is her feature debut.
- Clif Prowse
- Clif Prowse and Derek Lee are
Vancouver-based filmmakers and
have been co-directing films since
they met in grade eight in 1992. Their
directorial credits include the short
films Waterfall (02), No Backing Out
(04), The Shell (07), and Snakehead
(09). Afflicted (13) is their debut
- Seth Scriver
- Seth Scriver was born in Toronto.
His works include solo animation
exhibited at the Images Festival in
Toronto and the Impakt Festival in
Utrecht, as well as his book Stooge
Pile. He makes his directorial debut
with Asphalt Watches (13).
- Shayne Ehman
- Shayne Ehman was born in
Athabasca, Alberta. His work has
been exhibited internationally for
over twenty years, most recently in
Krakow, Poland and the M+B Gallery
in Los Angeles. Asphalt Watches (13)
marks his directorial debut.
