Calling all film technophiles! This session will provide a state of the union on the latest in large-sensor cinematography. We will discuss compressed 4K, new forms of solid-state media, 3rd party recorders, strategies for data management, and even camera ergonomics. And not to worry, we’ll break down all these terms for those who are here to learn. The discussion will focus on the impact of technology advances for the creative and business side of the industry.

Director, Producer & DP (MODERATOR)
As a director, producer, and DP, David Leitner has over sixty credits in feature-length dramas and documentaries, including eight Sundance premieres. He is an author, columnist, speaker, and contributor to the classic, "The Filmmaker's Handbook." He was Senior Contributing Editor at Millimeter magazine for two decades and presently serves as Motion Picture Chair of the New York Section of SMPTE.

Director, Producer, and DOP
As a Producer, his credits include Let It Come Down: The Life of Paul Bowles , The True Meaning of Pictures, Manufactured Landscapes, and Act of God. As a Cinematographer, de Pencier regularly shoots factual TV series and documentaries for the CBC, PBS, Discovery, National Geographic and History Television. In 2011 he was nominated for a best photography Gemini for Raccoons. In 2010 he shot the documentary adaptation of Payback, which was selected for Sundance 2012 and released theatrically in Canada and the U.S. De Pencier was admitted as a full member to the Canadian Society of Cinematographers in 2012. He is the producer and Director of Photography of Watermark, a feature doc premiering at TIFF in 2013.

Chief Technology Officer, Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc.
Paul Salvini is responsible for guiding the direction of Christie systems and software for current offerings and growth platforms, including the exploration of new concepts and technologies designed to benefit Christie's extensive global customer base. Before joining Christie in June 2011, he was the CTO at Side Effects Software and worked in 3-D animation for major Hollywood studios. He holds an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, a Master's of Science, a PhD and an MBA, and is an Adjunct Professor of Engineering and a KMDI Senior Research Fellow at the University of Toronto. In 2007, he was named to Canada's "Top 40 under 40" list of outstanding business leaders.
- James Stewart
Producer/Director, Geneva Films
James is an award-winning director, and producer whose work ranges from mobile to giant screen, and from commercials to stereoscopic 3D museum installations. Stewart's recent Ultra HD and 3D projects include cinema commercials for Samsung, Toyota, Lexus, Sprint and JCPenney; the 3D concert film Experience Montreuxand Reflections for Toyota Japan. His work on Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams was awarded the Lumière Award for Best 3D Documentary and in 2012, he produced the world's first gesture-controlled 3D cinema game. In 2013, his award-winning stop-motion 3D film Foxed! has been invited to over 35 film festivals and is being developed as a feature film. His 3D silhouette film, Béatrice Coron's Daily Battles, premiered recently at TED2013. Stewart, who was recently featured with Ang Lee on the cover of the Directors issue of SHOOT magazine, is a six-time speaker at Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity and presented the TEDTalk Storytelling in the Next Dimension at TED2011.
