In the year 2027, all of Earth's women have become mysteriously infertile and the social order has collapsed, with democratic governments replaced by authoritarian regimes. In a grim, grey England, alcoholic journalist Theo (Clive Owen) is recruited by his ex-wife turned revolutionary, Julian (Julianne Moore), to obtain travel papers for a young refugee, Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey), who is miraculously pregnant. Attempting to reach a ship that will take the girl to a group of scientists working on a cure for infertility, Theo and Kee must evade both the government and Julian's traitorous cohorts if humanity is to have a chance to survive. Featuring stunningly choreographed single-take set pieces, Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón's dazzling doomsday thriller deftly melds social commentary and blockbuster thrills into "a bouillabaisse of up-to-the-minute terrors" (David Edelstein, New York Magazine).
