TIFF, a vibrant not-for-profit arts organization, is accepting applications for the contract position of:
WRITER/EDITOR, FESTIVAL PROGRAMME GUIDE (2 positions available)

TIFF is seeking two highly motivated and energetic individuals for eight-week contracts working on the Programme Guide and Official Film Schedule for the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.
These positions consist of an editorial role — and an intense workflow — in a busy office environment at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Working long hours and adhering to extremely tight turnarounds and deadlines, the Festival Programme Guide Writer/Editors will report to the Editorial Manager, and indirectly to other members of the TIFF Bell Lightbox Programme Editorial, Creative Services and Festival Programming teams. Their essential duties will be to contribute to publication of the Programme Book by editing, writing and compiling Programme notes on Festival film titles. The job also includes fact-checking and proofing duties as required, along with constant multitasking due to the high volume of copy submissions, screenings and schedule amendments.
Responsibilities •Copy-editing, writing, fact-checking and proofing editorial content for the Festival ’12 Programme Guide and the Official Film Schedule •Correspondence with Festival Programmers to ensure that deadlines are observed and copy approval is obtained •Maintenance of Programme List data; contributions to Editorial work-back schedules •Attend advance screenings as assigned •Other Editorial tasks as assigned
Contract Dates: June 25–August 17, 2012
Minimum Requirements•Undergraduate degree in liberal arts and/or journalism, or post-degree diploma in book/magazine publishing •Previous editorial experience in newspaper, magazine, online and/or book publishing (mandatory); copy editing experience is a strong asset • Experience in an editorial or print production environment is essential •Strong writing and research skills •Exceptional eye for detail and an ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment •Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and rapidly shifting timelines •Ability to work long hours •Interest in Film and Contemporary Art is an asset •Background in film criticism and/or academic writing is an asset •Familiarity with web-based publishing tools is an asset •Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style is an asset
