Parul Pandya
Was born in the UK and moved to the Toronto area at the age of six. From an early age, it became abundantly clear what the two things she was passionate about were: talking and music. Raised within a Hindu tradition, she learned the importance of diversity and the appreciation of different cultures at a young age. Throughout her early school years, Parul was very active in the vocal music and drama programs and spent a lot of her time finding ways to express her thoughts and feelings to others through art. This led her to study Renaissance Studies (with a special interest in the Italian Renaissance), History and Sexual Diversity at the University of Toronto. Her passion for art, history, and culture is now being channeled through writing poignant and personal observations about love, life, sex, sexuality, society and popular culture. She writes a regular blog, The House of Provocation and has appears regularly in Xtra: Toronto's Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans Bi-weekly and as a writer for the Toronto International Film Festival. She feels strongly about queer activism, human rights and equality - desire for good change pushes these into her constant state of mind. This is her second year writing with TIFF and she is hella-excited to be back!
