Following his time as Director of Programming for DocuClub and the Newport International Film Festival, David Nugent now holds the position at the
Hamptons International Film Festival. He also teaches Documentary and American Independent Film History at The New School.
David takes time away from programming Hamptons to offer us his TIFF picks:
Attending Toronto will prove to be a different experience for me this year as it falls on the week that I lock my own program. Given the proximity of our festival dates, I have the good fortune of having seen some of the docs, and being very tuned in and excited about the others. The 3 that excite me the most are:
1.Religulous (pictured above right): The Toronto screening of Borat a few years ago was one of the most electric festival screenings I?ve attended and I can?t wait to see what Maher and Charles do with all the grist for this mill.
2. The Biggest Chinese Restaurant in the World: Weijun Chen?s Please Vote for Me was one of my favorite docs last year and I can?t wait to see what he follows it with.
3. Waltz With Bashir: OK, so I?ve already seen this one. So, I?ll use this posting as an encouragement for everybody to go see this film. It floored me in Cannes, and I can?t wait to see it again.
