So honoured to have a pic of the closing night experience over at
Sam Javanrouh's "daily dose of imagery", a photo-blog that I often check.
Midnight Madness 2007 has come to a close and I think you will all agree that it was a banner year! Argento! Romero! Gordon! Miike! Not to mention the new blood with selections including Gens, Mason, Yip, Matsumoto, Sori, Bustillo and Maury!
We are keeping track of the titles that sold and right off the top, congrats to our filmmakers on the sale of GEORGE A. ROMERO'S DIARY OF THE DEAD and THE MOTHER OF TEARS to the Weinstein Company. Cinetic Media sold the North American rights, including Mexico, on behalf of Artfire Films/Romero-Grunwald Prods to Weinstein Co. for $2 million-$2.5 million. Myriad Pictures sold MOTHER for six figures for all North American rights except theatrical and Canadian television. DAINIPPONJIN was sold to the new genre label from Magnolia, Magnet. "Specializing in the wild, unquantifiable and uncompromised, Magnet will provide an outlet for a different strand of films, which had previously been released alongside Magnolia?s traditional specialties: independent dramatic features and award-winning documentaries."
Stay tuned for sales news on the other titles: STUCK, DEVILS CHAIR, FRONTIER(S), SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO and FLASH POINT.
Lots more to come on the blog. Fearless blog reporter Shane McNeil caught most of the intros and Q&As on video and we are trying to edit them together and will be posting the YouTube links in the upcoming days.
Got pics or videos that you shot of the activities in and around Midnight Madness? Send them along to "ultra8pictures@gmail.com" and we will post them to the blog.
Big thanks to our audience bloggers, Darryl Shaw, Carol Borden and Fiona Newman for bridging the gap between screen and seat. We plan to continue the blog all year, tracking the developments on films that have been in the Midnight Madness line-up as well as reports from my travels to other international festivals. My first trip abroad will be to the amazing fantastic fest in Sitges, Spain this October! Keep on coming back and THANKS for all the cheers at the Midnight hour!
