Joshua Rothkopf, who writes about film for Time Out New York and other publications, weighs in with his most anticipated titles from this year's
doc line-up.
Last year, when he was surveyed by Indiewire for his
top picks of 06 he listed the TIFF entry
Pervert's Guide to Cinema as among the best undistributed titles of the year. Now you can purchase the Pervert's DVD from the film's
web site. Here are Rothkopf's picks for this year:
HEAVY METAL IN BAGHDAD (pictured) Given all the handwringing, I'd sooner enlist than watch another Iraqumentary. But I suspect this little number is going to finally prove what I've long suspected: the only rational response is?yes?to shred.
LOU REED'S BERLIN Ten bucks Schnabel's second TIFF film will be superior to the one that got all the attention. These concerts at St. Ann's are already the stuff of legend.
USELESS If Jia Zhang-ke is making a doc about China's fashion industry (and knocking it off with the CGI spaceships), then I say it's "comeback time." Only one thing is for sure: Jonathan Rosenbaum will love this film.
